FREE $500 Heating Credit: How to Get Your November HEAP Benefits in New York
New York residents could receive up to $500 off their heating bills this winter through the federally funded Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP).
Governor Kathy Hochul is urging eligible households to apply starting November 24 to secure this vital help as temperatures drop.
The program helps low- and middle-income families, including older adults, young children, and individuals with disabilities, cover energy costs.

State officials estimate 1.5 million New Yorkers could qualify for the discount, with applications opening as soon as the federal government releases the necessary $400 million in funds.
Governor Hochul has also directed utility companies to ensure that all residents enrolled in HEAP continue receiving their benefits, regardless of federal delays.
Eligible New Yorkers can check requirements and apply via the EAP website.
Acting quickly is important, as funds are limited and applications are processed on a first-come, first-served basis.
“Households that rely on HEAP, most of whom include someone who is an older adult, young child or an individual with a disability, have already had to wait too long for this vital assistance as colder days and nights become more common," said New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance Commissioner Barbara C. Guinn.
