November 2026 Social Security: Plan for Your Utility Bills

Knowing when your Social Security payment arrives can help you plan for electricity, heating, water and other household bills. November brings two scheduling adjustments: one Social Security payment moves earlier because of Veterans Day, and November’s SSI benefit arrives in October.

The Social Security Administration’s official 2026 calendar lists the dates beneficiaries should use when planning monthly expenses.

November 2026 Payment Schedule

Payment dateWho receives benefits
Friday, October 30SSI recipients receiving their November benefit early
Tuesday, November 3People who received Social Security before May 1997, or receive both Social Security and SSI
Tuesday, November 10Recipients on the birthday-based schedule with birthdays from the 1st through the 10th
Wednesday, November 18Recipients on the birthday-based schedule with birthdays from the 11th through the 20th
Wednesday, November 25Recipients on the birthday-based schedule with birthdays from the 21st through the 31st

The November 10 payment replaces the usual second-Wednesday date because November 11 is Veterans Day. For SSI recipients, the October 30 deposit covers November—it is not an extra payment.

Plan Around Energy and Water Bill Deadlines

An early deposit does not change when your utility bills are due. SSI recipients should reserve the October 30 payment for November expenses, since their next regularly scheduled SSI payment is December 1.

To keep payments and expenses aligned:

  • Compare your benefit date with electricity, gas, water and sewer due dates.

  • Set aside money for essential bills before other spending.

  • Ask your utility provider whether it can adjust your due date or offer a payment arrangement.

  • Check automatic payments to make sure enough money will be available.

These steps are especially useful when a bill is due before your monthly benefit arrives.

Where to Find Help With Utility Costs

If your benefit does not cover essential energy costs, the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program may help eligible households with electricity, natural gas, propane and other heating or cooling expenses.

Eligibility and available assistance depend on your local program; receiving Social Security does not automatically qualify you.

You can also explore state utility and charitable assistance resources or call the National Energy Assistance Referral Hotline at 1-866-674-6327.

For water and sewer bills, contact your provider separately and ask about hardship assistance, discounts or payment plans. Do not assume an energy-assistance approval covers water charges. If a shutoff is approaching, contact the provider promptly rather than waiting for your next Social Security deposit.
